Pulitzer Prize for Fiction Winners: Every Winning Novel, Newest First

The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction is one of the best-known literary awards in the United States. Under the prize rules it goes to distinguished fiction by an American author, preferably dealing with American life. So this is a list of American novels and story collections, not of world literature, and the books are mostly set in the United States or deal with its history and people.

It is a good starting point if you want serious, well-reviewed fiction and do not know where to begin. Expect a wide range: family sagas, war novels, small-town portraits, historical epics and short fiction. Each book below has a one-line hook and a plain note on what you get from it, so you can pick without opening every page.

Best for: Readers who want acclaimed American fiction and like a book with something to say.
