A Confederate colonel in a Southern town after Reconstruction
The Store is set in Florence, an inland Southern town, in the mid-1880s after Reconstruction. It follows Colonel Miltiades Vaiden, a decorated Confederate officer and former overseer of the Crowninshield plantation, as he struggles to find his place under free labor conditions. It shows how planters, yeomen farmers and newly freed African Americans adapt to the postwar South.
