A nine-step program for changing your relationship with money, based on the authors' own simple living
by Vicki Robin & Joe Dominguez
The book followed a 1986 cassette-tape version of Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin's workshop and appeared in 1992. It lays out a nine-step program for transforming one's relationship with money and reaching financial independence. The steps came from the authors' own experience of living on a fraction of a typical household's spending, funding that lifestyle with interest from long-term Treasury bonds. Revised editions followed in 1998, 2008 and 2018.

Household money, spending and financial independence.
Wikipedia reports more than 600,000 copies sold before the 1998 revision, citing a 1997 New York Times obituary of Dominguez, and over 1 million across all editions, citing a February 8, 2018 New York Times review. A 1992 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show helped make it a bestseller.
Thoughtful and practical.
