The Ramsays' summer at a seaside house on the Isle of Skye, built around a planned trip to a lighthouse
Mrs. Ramsay, Mr. Ramsay, their eight children, including James and Cam, and Lily Briscoe, a young painter, stay at the family's summer home on the Isle of Skye in the Hebrides, with visits between 1910 and 1920. The novel centers on a planned trip to a nearby lighthouse and focuses on the characters' inner thoughts and perceptions more than on action. It has three parts: the first summer visit, "Time Passes," which covers the years that follow, and a return to the house ten years after the first part. Hogarth Press published it on May 5, 1927.
