An Anglo-Irish family at the end of an era
The Naylors of Danielstown, an Anglo-Irish family, spend a last summer in their country house during the Irish War of Independence. Bowen’s 1929 novel is a delicate study of an ending.
Readers who enjoy stories set firmly in a real time and place, with a melancholic mood and an unhurried pace. It is a read that rewards some attention.
