An impoverished Italian prince in London is about to marry Maggie Verver, a rich American, and meets Charlotte Stant again
by Henry James
Prince Amerigo is an impoverished Italian prince in London to marry Maggie Verver, the only child of Adam Verver, a wealthy American financier and art collector. There he meets again Charlotte Stant, an American woman from his past. Fanny and Colonel Robert Assingham are also part of the story. The novel is narrowly focused on four central characters and told largely through their consciousness. Scribner published it in the US in 1904, in two volumes, and Methuen in the UK.
