A sequel that moves three thousand years on, to a colony beside an alien species

Tor Books published the novel in March 1986, and the first-edition hardcover has 415 pages. It is the sequel to Ender's Game. It is set around the year 5270, about 3,000 years later, though relativistic travel means Ender is only about 35. Human colonies on the Hundred Worlds are linked by ansible and governed by the Starways Congress. The story centers on Lusitania, home to a Brazilian Catholic colony called Milagre and a sentient forest species the colonists call the Pequeninos. A revised edition followed in 1991.
