An orphaned boy and a Tibetan lama travel across India, and the Great Game draws Kim in

Kim, whose full name is Kimball O'Hara, is an orphaned Irish boy who lives as a street urchin in Lahore and is so absorbed in local culture that few realize he is white. He becomes the disciple of an elderly Tibetan lama on a spiritual quest, and they travel in search of a legendary river. The journey draws Kim into the Great Game, the rivalry between Russia and Britain in Central Asia, through the horse trader Mahbub Ali and Colonel Creighton. It was serialized in 1900 and 1901 and published by Macmillan in October 1901.
