Remote-controlled soldiers and a technology that links minds

Ace Books published the novel in 1997, and it runs to 326 pages. Despite the similar title, it is not a direct sequel to The Forever War and takes place in a different future of Earth. In 2048, the Alliance military fights wars against third-world guerrillas using remotely controlled robots called soldierboys. Only first-world nations have nanoforge technology, which makes the conflicts asymmetric. The narration is partly first person and partly an anonymous third person.
