Humanity is at war with an insectoid alien species, and gifted children are trained as officers through war games
Tor Books published the novel in January 1985, expanded from a 1977 short story of the same name in Analog Science Fiction and Fact. The first edition runs to 324 pages. Humanity is at war with an insectoid alien species called the buggers, and Earth recruits gifted children and trains them as officers through increasingly difficult war games. Andrew "Ender" Wiggin is the central figure, with his siblings Peter and Valentine. A revised edition came out in 1991.
Andrew "Ender" Wiggin and his siblings Peter and Valentine.
An unspecified future in which humanity fights the insectoid buggers, and children are trained as officers.
It was the first science fiction novel published entirely online, on Delphi, a year before the print edition. It was translated into 34 languages, and a film adaptation directed by Gavin Hood followed in 2013.
Fast and intense.
