A murder at the top of a cloning society, and years of fallout

Warner Books published the first edition in May 1988, a hardcover of 680 pages. It belongs to Cherryh's Alliance-Union universe. Cyteen is the capital of Union, in the Lalande 46650 system; dissident scientists and engineers founded it in 2201, and it declared independence from Earth in 2300. The murder of a prominent Union politician and scientist has lasting repercussions. Ariane Emory, the Warricks, Grant, the Nyes and Jane Strassen appear. Cherryh later wrote a sequel, Regenesis, published in 2009.
