Farm animals overthrow their owner and try to build a fairer society

The mistreated animals of Manor Farm, near Willingdon, England, rebel against their human owner, hoping to build a fairer society of their own. The cast includes Old Major, an aged boar, the rival boars Napoleon and Snowball, Squealer, a pig who serves as spokesperson, Boxer, a loyal workhorse, Benjamin, a skeptical donkey, and the neglectful farmer Mr. Jones. Secker & Warburg published it on 17 August 1945 as Animal Farm: A Fairy Story, and American publishers dropped the subtitle in 1946.
