A young Englishwoman's trip to Florence changes how she sees her life

Lucy Honeychurch travels through Italy with her cousin and chaperone, Charlotte Bartlett. Encounters with George Emerson and his father, an unconventional father and son, unsettle her expectations. Back in England, at the Honeychurch family home, Windy Corner, she faces pressure to marry Cecil Vyse, a sophisticated London aesthete whose social polish masks his pretensions, and her feelings for the Emersons persist. Edward Arnold published it in 1908.
