Paul Harding grew up in Wenham, Massachusetts. He studied English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and took an MFA at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
Before he wrote fiction he was a drummer: he played in the band Cold Water Flat from 1990 to 1996. He teaches creative writing at Emerson College in Boston and lives near Boston with his wife and two sons.
